As Will Smith is fond of saying: “welcome to Earf.” After reuniting the crew of Star Trek: Discovery  in this week’s episode, the gang found themselves back where it all started; and after a few mishaps, hanging at the former site of Starfleet Academy in San Francisco.

Don’t worry, though, this isn’t about to become Land Trek. The crew is headed off to a location seen before in the Star Trek universe, but not for a good long time with next week’s episode as they continue to explore the wreckage of the galaxy left behind by The Burn.

Can you give me a quick Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 recap (so far)?

As Will Smith is fond of saying: “Aw, hell no.”

Just kidding, I would be happy to recap Star Trek: Discovery for you. After blasting 930 years in the future, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) was lost in time in the year 3188. After crashing into his ship, she teamed up with Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala), a man working as a Courier. Couriers, as you might expect, ferry goods and services from planet to planet; the twist is that due to an event called The Burn, the galaxy’s Dilithium supplies have dwindled tremendously, so Couriers are necessary to help keep the galaxy running, albeit barely.

A year later, the Discovery followed Burnham through the wormhole into the future, and suffered some serious damage in the process. They crashed on another planet, and discovered there are signs the galaxy still believes in the Federation — despite the organization essentially disappearing because of The Burn.

Reunited with Burnham, who has been investigating The Burn for the past year and working as a Courier with Book, the crew took their ship back home to Earth in order to track down a transmission from a Federation Admiral. Only when they arrived, they discovered a worst case scenario: Earth under lockdown, no Federation, and them stuck between the armies of Earth and seeming alien invaders.

Turns out they weren’t alien invaders at all, though, they were humans; and now Captain Saru (Doug Jones) was able to broker temporary peace. In the process, they also met Adira (Blu del Barrio), who one could perhaps refer to as “a Wesley Crusher type character” who knows a ton and turns out to also be the admiral they’re looking for. Sort of. Adira is joined with a Trill, an alien mostly seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine who works in a symbiotic relationship with their host.

Naturally, Discovery is going to need some answers from Adira.

Who plays Adira on Star Trek: Discovery?

That would be Blu del Barrio, the first non-binary actor in Star Trek historyBlu is making their screen acting debut on Discovery, having just graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
