Iowa vs. Illinois prediction, line: Hawkeyes the pick

Winning on the road, especially in the Big Ten, is a difficult chore, but Iowa is perfect 3-0 in conference road games this month and will look to make it 4-0 Friday at Illinois.

The Hawkeyes rank third in the nation overall in points scored on a per-possession basis, and the offense has traveled well, rating seventh among Division I teams in this category in road games.

Illinois, meanwhile, has lost two of its last three home games, with opponents making 44.1 percent of their 3-point shots in this stretch. The Illini’s offense helps offset this by rating eighth in the country in 3-point shooting percentage, but Iowa is 26th in this category and Illinois makes 38.5 of its 3-pointers at home compared to 42 percent on the road.

Iowa’s is the only offense in the nation that averages more than two assists per turnover committed, which is not ideal for an Illinois defense that ranks 304th in the country in turnovers forced per defensive play.

With Iowa grabbing a rebound on 33.6 percent of its missed shots and and Luka Garza averaging 26.9 points per game, more than four more per game than any other DI player, the Hawkeyes should continue their road success in The Prairie State on Friday.

The play: Iowa, +1
