Former Rep. Katie Hill, who resigned when nude photos of her surfaced amid a “throuple” scandal, said on Wednesday that her old government Twitter account was “hacked” by former staff who blasted out messages that she is “not a hero for women.”
The hacking comes as it was announced Tuesday that actress Elisabeth Moss will play the California Democrat in a screen adaptation of her memoir, “She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality.”
Moss, known for her roles in “Mad Men” and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” will produce the movie through her production company and Hill will be an executive producer.
She thanked Twitter users who alerted her about the hacked account on Wednesday.
“Control of my account was immediately handed back to the House Clerk when I resigned, including password changes and access restrictions. God knows who hacked it from there,” Hill said on Twitter.
In a series of tweets announcing “Katie’s former staff here,” authors said they were “disappointed in so many folks,” and named Moss and the film’s screenwriter, “regarding today’s announcement.”
The thread continued that the incident leading to Hill’s resignation was an “incredibly sensitive situation” and went on to say that “What happened to Katie Hill shouldn’t happen to anyone.”
“But, this moment requires more nuance, as Katie Hill’s story – our story – is also one of workplace abuse and harassment,” another posting said.
The alleged former staffers said Hill can be “both a victim and perpetrator” and said they are putting “themselves in harm’s way for the public to understand a simple truth: Katie Hill is not a hero for women. We deserve heroes who embody our values even in the most difficult moments.”
Hill’s government Twitter account was suspended after she resigned in October 2019, after coming under fire for engaging in a “throuple” relationship with a female campaign staffer and her estranged husband Kenny Heslep.
At around the same time, nude photos of her were posted on the Daily Mail.
The freshman lawmaker, a rising star in Democratic circles, blamed the relationship on her abusive marriage.
