Five young men were killed in a “catastrophic” two-car crash that split one of the vehicles completely in half Tuesday night in Yonkers, according to new reports.
The accident happened at around 9:30 p.m. on Riverdale Avenue near Culver Street when a motorist traveling at “an extreme rate of speed” crashed into another car with four men inside, authorities told NBC New York.
The four men were pronounced dead on scene, and the driver of the other car was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died, the outlet reported.
Authorities called the crash “catastrophic,” according to The Journal News.
Several other people were hospitalized, though the extent of their injuries was unclear, according to ABC 7.
One of the cars was split in half from the impact of the crash, according to the report.
“I heard a very loud noise. Unusual. Never seen anything worse. So I went to the window because I live nearby and I see a guy running and saying, ‘Oh my God, oh my God!’” witness Maria Delgado told the station. “I get dressed up and come out and the car is split in half with dead bodies on one side and on this side… and the white car opposite from the way it was coming.”
The crash remains under investigation by local police.
